About Us

The Theological Education Institute (TEI) was founded in Boston in 1990 by John C. Rankin, and has been headquartered in his native Hartford area since 1992. John was engaged in pastoral, then pro-life ministry, from 1978-1991.

The purpose of the TEI is to bring the fruit of a biblical education to the grass roots of the church, to equip believers with competence and confidence in the Gospel so as to fulfill 1 Peter 3:15-16: "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander."

John teaches eight 12-hours classes that sum up the Bible, church history, pagan religions and how to address the challenge of the current age we live in. Anyone is welcome to attend (click here).

The Mars Hill Hill Forum series, begun in 1993, is where John interacts with leaders of different persuasions, where honest public conversation in the face of debated theological, cultural and political issues is in view (http://www.teinet.net/marshillforums.html).

The Mars Hill Society seeks to bring the Mars Hill Forum ethos into the political world (http://www.teinet.net/marshillsociety.html).
